Conington Aerodrome

Andy my CFI instructed me to Conington Aerodrome as part of solo prep, it’s an airfield south of Peterborough, another former WW2 airbase that flew B51 bombers.

The idea was to familiarize myself with its circuit (right hand!) and approach from above, in the unlikely event that Sibson developed a situation where I couldn’t land there.

Today is a high-pressure, calm late summer’s day, which meant much better execution of all takeoffs and landings. Landing at Conington’s long WW2 tarmac was a good feeling, it was smooth and straight, taxying too was supremely easy and require so little power. Although it’s funny to experience the nose wheel doing a rattle like those on a shopping cart during taxiing, pulling back on the nose resolved it.

We met Frank at Conington control to pay a £15 landing fee, had a wee, and proceeded to depart and land back at Sibson in 15 minutes.

So altogether we’ve flown 45 minutes today, although I wanted to fly more, my wallet agreed quietly that this is probably for the best.

Andy the CFI said after a few more circuit training sessions I’ll soon be ready for solo. Therefore, I took a copy of my medical and verbally confirmed that I’ve done airlaw too.

Also, the first page of my logbook is nearly full.
