Day 3 Post Op

Having boasted to parents down WhatsApp that I hadn’t needed pain meds since the days before - I found myself popping two innocent Codeines before bed time. Pain is a bitch, you first feel it returning as a tugging sensation, then the brain does its best - imagining the new ligament fresh with its anchor coming undone. Butcher threads unwinding, anchor plates yielding, scraping the bond as it does so.

It’s all forgotten of course as the meds returns a measure of rationality: it’s just pain and I need meds.

As so in the morning as I stood between crutches facing the bog aiming the morning stream at knocking off some caked streaks of poo….I wondered about the efficacy of the hinged brace as it slid down my thighs along the loose post-op dressing not meant for removal for another 12 hours.

I must’ve lost quite a bit of muscle, and the constant chaffing between dressing and brace was a bad design choice- whomever to blame. So off came all the dressing, lucky enough the actual sticky patch covering the lacroscopic wounds are intact- slapped an additional later over it just in case.

They say itching is the first sign of healing - why can’t the pain meds take that away too? Too much of a good thing?

So far I can walk with normal form, but sometimes the balance is not there.

Knee not looking the sexiest so far, very puffy, but happy that there’s no sign of infection.
