Just finished Nine Lives, by William Dalrymple
Nine lives is a good read. I might reread it in future.
The last story “The Song of The Blind Minstrel” is the best for me.
After the previous 8 chapters, this one ends with a few sentences that for me, captures the essence of all the protagonists’ life purpose and serves as a good end point.
“When I hear this music….I don't care if I die tomorrow. It makes everything in life seem sweet”
“It makes us so happy…. That we don't remember what sadness is.”
How many of us had ever got to such a point, before we can go no further? Even having learned that, how few of us have ever thought of wanting to get there?
