Passed my UK CAA Class 2medical

I find it perplexing that we’re required to pay for these services! In my opinion, the NHS should provide these as annual or bi-annual check-ups for all citizens.

To me, tests such as blood pressure, ECG, urine analysis, hearing, colour blindness, eyesight, balance and general coordination should not be exclusive to pilots.

Regardless, I successfully completed these tests at St Peters Hill, a surprisingly spacious clinic in Grantham that resembles a Tardis. There’s a shortage of AMEs in the region, as Dr Pilbeam pointed out.

In any case, I spent a worthwhile 60 minutes undergoing £160 worth of check-ups. This included an ECG conducted by a young nurse (during which she got a glimpse of my burgeoning middle-aged physique), leaving my urine sample in a metal hatch as instructed by the receptionist, and participating in a coordination test that involved pulling the doctor’s fingers.

Despite leading a sedentary lifestyle, I’m pleased to report that I’m fit enough to hold a Class 2 Part-21 FCL Medical. In other words, I’m fit enough to serve as flight crew or a private pilot.
