The Miserable Tripper

1st October 2023 - Arrow to the Knee & Exams Planning

So I injured my knee playing badminton from an awkward landing. I could still take off but will struggle to balance a turn on a left hand circuit.

How the injury occur is obviously not due to an Arrow - its a reference to Skyrim. I launched for a majestic jump smash (Nathan might observe otherwise) and landed on a twist. Next day, following a precautionary x-ray its confirmed to have had a ligament damage with some considerable swelling, bye bye rudder control for at least a week, if not more. Big bummer.

All frustrations aside, the silver lining is I now get to focus on completing as many theoritical exam as possible.

Today I have completed the course material for Aircraft general knowledge (on hindsight this should’ve been the first subject, it was easy, rather than air law). As with previous subjects I’ll now proceed with mock exams, doing multiple over a week or so to gain confidence.

Seeing as it is a relatively straightforward subject for me, I’ll experiment with starting another subject in parrallel. so in any given day for the next period, I should be studying course material for one AND doing mock exams for the other. Assuming it takes me 2 weeks to complete the course material, 2 weeks for mocks, I should aim to be ready for 2 exams in 6 rather than 8 weeks.

If proven succesfull, this means by End of October, I would’ve completed 6 of the 9 theoritical subjects. Here are my workings:

I have completed 4 subjects: Air Law, Ops Proc, Meteorology, Navigation

Aims for End of October: Aircraft General Knowledge, Principles of flight

Aims for 9th of December: Human Performance and limitations, Flight Performance and Planning, Communication

P/S: as I repost this section of my Journal on the blog site 7 months later, I completed as planned- bar Human Performance and Limitations due to a combination of procrastination, travel plans and private commitments.
